Cockroach Infestation Coolangatta

Do you have a Cockroach Infestation at your home in Coolangatta?

There are over 4,000 species of cockroaches worldwide. The most common species is the German Cockroach. Newborn German Cockroaches become adults in just 36 days and are responsible for outbreaks of illness and allergic reactions in many people.

But how do you tell what species the cockroach is at your home in Coolangatta?

In Coolangatta there are 3 main types of cockroaches you may find.

The German Cockroach is a commercial grade pest and quite tricky to get rid of. They are easily distinguished by 2 dark longitudinal stripes on their body’s and usually about 1.5cm in length, significantly smaller then the other 2 types.

If you have ‘small’ cockroaches, they may be Germans and you will need to call in a professional to get rid of the infestation.

The second type is the Australian Bush Cockroach. They are quite large with a brown plate on their backs and yellow or light brown markings. This species do not like the cold and usually prevale in areas with mild Winters. They are very active at night.

The third type is the American Cockroach. Similar to the Australian, it is usually 3.5-4cm in length but is more red in colour. Their wings will be longer then their bodies and hang over their backs.

A professional is the best way to manage general cockroach issues due to their resilience!

Did you know:

  • Cockroaches can live for over a week with no head?
  • They can live with no food for over a month!
  • They can hold their breath for 40 mins, and
  • They can run almost 5km per hour!

Accurate Pest Management not only specialise in cockroaches and carry out treatments according to the species but also offer 12 month service warranty to ensure your home in Coolangatta is cockroach free!

Rodents can spread disease and the symptoms can be similar to that of the winter flu

Your Gold Coast Flu might not be the Gold Coast Flu at all!  Rodents can spread disease and the symptoms can be similar to that of the Winter Flu!

Winter is here and so is the cold. Unfortunately this will mean an increase in Rodents trying to enter our Gold Coast homes to nest in the warmth.

You may have already heard scratching in your ceiling or walls at night?

Pitta-patter of little feet that don’t belong to your children?

Or seen evidence of droppings in your kitchen pantry or linen cupboards?

Certain viruses are contained in rodent droppings that can become airborne especially if they are in our homes. We inhale these viruses and can develop acute respiratory distress. Symptoms may include muscle aches, fevers, headaches and chesty coughs.

There are already too many flus to count on your hand during Winter here on the Gold Coast!

If you have any evidence of rodents in your Gold Coast home give us a call to discuss protection options and eliminate them entirley.

What damage can Rodents cause?

Rodents can cause major damage to our homes here on the Gold Coast.

Did you know…

  • Mice can squeeze through holes as small as a pencil eraser!
  • Mice & Rats are fantastic swimmers! They have been known to swim through sewer lines and up drainpipes to enter homes!
  • Rats teeth can grow at a rate of 5 inches per year and they constantly gnaw to wear down their teeth to prevent them growing to long which would result in starvation.
  • Rodents are also excellent climbers & jumpers and they are fast!
  • A female rodent can produce up to 12 babies every three weeks!

We always see an influx in Winter with the increase of Rodents entering our Gold Coast homes due to the cold weather and abundance of food. You will most likely hear or see evidence of rodents before you will see one but they can cause huge amounts of damage to your Gold Coast home if you don’t rid your home of the infestation.

Signs that you have a rodent infestation in your Gold Coast home:

  1. Dark brown or black droppings about the home – usually found in clothing drawers, linen cupboards or food storage areas and range from ¼ – 1 inch in size. The amount of droppings you find is a good indication of the size of the infestation.
  2. Greasy tracks on your floors near your walls or small footprints and tail tracks in dusty areas close to skirting boards.
  3. An increase of activity, scurrying and gnawing noises after dark. You may have more luck looking in your roof cavity, cupboards or drawers in the evening. Rodents can make a huge amount of noise at night. However, if the noise sounds like an elephant walking around in the ceiling it very well may be a possum. You can hire local professionals (we use Mr Possum) to humanely capture and relocate the possum to a new home.
  4. Your food pantry will become party central… especially at night. Boxes will have tears & rips in them and bite marks. You will notice food spilling out into the shelves and anything plastic or cardboard wrapping will have holes.
  5. Rats especially, due to their nature to grind down their teeth can cause extensive damage to electrical wiring, service pipes and plumbing pipes! If you are experiencing electrical or plumbing issues it may be the work of rats. Rodents have been known to be the cause of house fires and they can chew through anything that is not galvanized or copper.

How to get rid of Silverfish in my wardrobe?

We recently had an enquiry from a customer when he made a very interesting but very disappointing discovery in his wardrobe at his home in Carrara. Three of his very expensive suits, that had been kept “protected” in a suit bag were full of holes!!

This is the calling card of the SILVERFISH amongst our Gold Coast homes… especially n Carrara!

Silverfish are wingless bugs that move in a wiggling motion resembling that of a fish and have long antennae and can live for up to 8 years… on the right diet!

Silverfish eat everything but especially are lovers of sources high in starch & sugar. Unfortunately clothing also falls into their food pyramid! Silverfish eat clothes not for the material but for the nourishing substances found in or on the fabric.

Clothes & material that have been spilled with sugary foods or beverages will attract silverfish and they seem to hold high preference for garments made of cotton, linen, silk, rayon & even leather. Clothing that is stored in wardrobes or dark storage areas here on the Gold Coast with moderately warm temperatures and high humidity are most susceptible to silverfish!

While our poor client had not seen evidence of silverfish anywhere else in his Carrara home, his suit bag was the perfect conditions to breed the infestation.

It usually takes an uncontrolled silverfish infestation to cause noticeable damage to clothing and requires professional pest control treatments to ensure the infestation has been killed off and protect the home from future attacks!

Call us today for a Silverfish treatment to your home on the Gold Coast, if you seems to have the same symptoms.
